About Fledgling
Kids grow up faster than anyone warns you. Parents take thousands of photos, but a photo shows what a moment looked like, not what led up to it or what happened after.
Fledgling is built to keep the rest. When something happens — something your child said, the game where it finally clicked, the way they lit up opening a present — open the app or raise your wrist, tap record, and tell it the way you'd tell a friend. There's no typing. Fledgling transcribes the recording on the device, then writes it up as a short story in one of five styles: In Your Words, Warm & Simple, Playful, Literary, or Society Column, where Lady Featherquill, society correspondent, reports on a toddler's dinner-table conduct as front-page news.
Stories collect into a private library with photos, tags, trips and "On This Day" reminders. They can be shared as an image, PDF or text straight from the share sheet, and printed as a hardcover book, made to order in the US.
There's no account. No ads, no tracking, no selling your data. Ever.
Why I built it
“Fledgling started on a vacation in Maine. My wife and I have taken thousands of photos of our son — probably tens of thousands — and we love looking back at them. But there are so many that it's overwhelming, and most of them don't hold the moment. They show what it looked like, not what led up to it or what happened after. The photo books we used to make had the same problem: pictures without the story.
So I built the thing I wanted. When something happens, you tap record — on your phone or your watch — and just tell it while it's fresh. Fledgling turns what you said into a short story, with your photos alongside. No typing, no blank page. What I wanted was a shelf of books I could pull down when he's grown, without sorting through thousands of photos.
And I'm always looking for meaningful gifts for my wife and family. Building a book of stories with the right photos by hand is beyond overwhelming. Fledgling does most of that for you — it's exactly the kind of gift I'd want to give.”

Features
- Just talk. Tap record and tell it naturally — no typing, no blank page. A thirty-second voice note in the school pickup line is enough.
- Five writing styles. From the parent's own words, cleaned up, to Lady Featherquill's society column.
- Apple Watch. Record from the wrist the moment something happens; the recording goes to the iPhone and becomes a story there.
- A library, not a feed. Photos, tags for everyone in the moment (kids, grandparents, the dog), trips, and "On This Day" reminders.
- Private sharing. Share a story as a rendered image, PDF or text through the iOS share sheet. Fledgling hosts no share links, and shared content never passes through our infrastructure.
- Printed books. A set of stories becomes a hardcover book — a gift for whoever in the family would treasure it: a spouse, grandparents, an aunt or uncle.
Privacy
Privacy is the design, not a feature added later. From our privacy policy:
- "All transcription happens on-device."
- "The app never transmits audio to MW Software or to any AI or other third-party service."
- "When a transcript is turned into a story, the app sends the transcript text; the first names of the children you've tagged on that memory … the memory's date; and, if the memory is part of a trip, the trip's name. Along with the writing style you chose, these go through MW Software's API relay to … a large-language-model service that writes the story and returns it to your device."
- Photos are "never sent to any AI service."
- "No third-party analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs."
No ads, no tracking, no selling your data. Ever. Read the full privacy policy.
Getting it right
A few notes for anyone writing about Fledgling:
- Parents don't write anything. They tell the moment out loud; Fledgling writes the story.
- The book is a keepsake first, and a gift second. Fledgling itself can't be bought for someone else. Parents make the book — for their own shelf, or for someone in the family, choosing which stories go in.
- iPhone, Apple Watch and Android, US only at launch.
- Transcription is on-device; the story is not. A large-language-model service writes the story from the transcript text, so please don't describe the whole app as offline.
- Books are made to order, any time, in any quantity — not a once-a-year product.

About the founder
Roric Krisanda is a parent and solo developer in New Jersey, and the founder of MW Software LLC. The idea for Fledgling came on a family vacation in Maine: he and his wife have thousands of photos of their son, and most of them don't hold the story. He built the app he wanted — one where you just tell the moment, and it's kept.
